The Galerie appreciates this opportunity to display artwork at the Hardwood Artisans that produces fine, custom-made furniture that are truly works of art.
The Opening Reception for the Firestone exhibition will be held on May 15th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Stephanie Firestone will demostrate the art of Raku firing, there will be a poetry reading by Susan Bucci Mockler, then an opportunity for everyone to share their poetic voice. Later, Patrick O'Brien will demonstrate his techniques of woodburning. There will be door prize of Hardwood Artisan products, live music, and refreshments, so please come and enjoy this afternoon filled with beauty and creativity in all forms.
Bill Firestone's paintings are combine unexpected color and active brushstrokes to create strong, yet inviting paintings that appeal to a broad audience. His paintings hang in many public and private collections and he is well known for his illustrations in literary publications, such as the Washington Post Magazine, Smithsonian Magazine, and Chesapeake Bay Magazine. The paintings in this exhibit have been chosen to invite the viewer to reflect on the object of the painting in a new way, to pause, and to get involved with each of them.
Stephanie Firestone's use of color and form, along with an accomplished skill in drawing, enable her to search the human form for truth and essence. Her ceramic forms and terra cotta sculptures capture and suggest more than just as physical form. It is as though she is embodying each of her pieces with an essence of the earth that speaks through the tones she chooses: muted greens, blues, and pinks, with a splash of aqua or white, and the spirit of the sculptures who have gone before her.
Please read more about their work in Artists Statements.
